2019 Roundup + 2020 Reading Goals
Hello 2020!
This marks the first New Year for Read By Dusk! I’ve had an incredible 2019. I launched this blog and social media accounts in February, and it’s been really great to be part of the book community. I’ve been posting book reviews on Goodreads since 2012 but with my blog I’m able to do more things like make book lists, post news and articles that interested me.
Highlights of my reading year:
- Attended the inaugural Capital Crime Festival in London where I had the chance to listen to discussion panels, meet some of my favourite authors and talk to other book readers!
- Attended book events for My Sister, The Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite, The Lost Man by Jane Harper, Starve Acre by Andrew Michael Hurley and Growing Things by Paul Tremblay
- Hosted my first readalong and giveaway on Instagram
- Started #NordicNoirNovember on Instagram
- Received a mention in a Litreactor article about bookstagrammers
- Read a record amount of books – 132 in total! (In case you missed it, here’s my Best 19 Books of 2019)
2020 Reading Goals
This year, I plan to be more intentional in my reading. Last year I was so excited to be able to share my love for books that I signed up for more than I could handle. I also agreed to last minute requests which created havoc to my reading plan!
So for 2020, I plan to focus on my ARCs backlog and cut down my TBR. I’m officially on a book ban too as I have more than enough books to get me by for now. One downside to being up-to-date with the publishing industry is that there are always new books coming out and that feeling of FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) is real! But I have to acknowledge my limits and finish what I’ve started first.
I’m also planning to mark books I don’t enjoy DNF more often. There are so many books out there that I don’t think slogging through a book I’m not loving is the best use of my time. When I DNF a book it doesn’t mean the book is bad, usually it just means I’m not the right reader for it.
So those are my goals for 2020 and I’m really excited for the year ahead! Do you have any reading goals you’re setting for 2020?
